Next Fest NW & Next Dance Cinema

Call for Choreographic and Dance Film submissions to Next Fest NW

Next Fest NW, November 30-December 2, 2007, is Velocity's new works series celebrating what's happening in contemporary dance and movement in our region. Each Next Fest NW showcases 3-4 choreographers and dance films and videos screened at the late-nite Next Dance Cinema. Next Fest NW artists are fully produced in Velocity's MainSpace Theater and also benefit from promotional, administrative and technical support. Deadline for Next Fest choreographers September 7, 2007 and the dance film and video submission deadline is October 26, 2007.

Collaborative Partnering Classes

This class offers a feast of possibilities for imaginative, articulate partnering. Clear task-oriented problems will help us develop the trust and the responsibility that is essential when moving in close proximity and in contact with other bodies. We will practice weight sharing, ways of safely manipulating each other, and ways of harnessing forces of momentum. We will create collaborative dances each day, set and improvised, using a guided progression of reconstruction steps that push our inventions into new worlds of detail and timing. There will be a chance to show these dances, with time set aside to further reconfigure and complicate.

Bridge Project

DANCER AUDITIONS November 17, 1:30-4pm, Velocity MainSpace

This three-week intensive offers choreographers an opportunity to receive creative and financial support, as well as rehearsal space for a new project while working with auditioned dancers. The project simultaneously offers dancers and opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom work and performance while establishing relationships with a choreographer and other dancers.

The intensive will take place January 7 through January 27, three hours a day, (Monday- Friday) between 12-3 pm, 3-6 pm, or 6-9 pm, at Velocity Dance Center. Velocity's Choreographer in Residence will be a choreographic advisor to all three choreographers during the process. New work resulting from the intensive will be produced by Velocity in the MainSpace Theater on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, January 25 - 27, 2008 @ 8PM
